Congratulations to Mr. Peter Park for receiving the prestigious Gold Award of Recognition from SCSBOA (Southern California School Band and Orchestra Association) last weekend. Denise Haslop (MBMS) was also recognized with the Distinguished Member Award. Our MBUSD students are truly lucky to have the musical direction and expertise of these two brilliant teachers. We are thankful and proud of their achievement and contribution to our music community.
ROTARY FINALS SOLO COMPETITION
The Rotary Finals Solo competition will be held on Friday, January 31st, in the MCHS Auditorium at 8:00 pm This event is free and everyone is welcome and encouraged to attend and support our young musicians, so spread the word. Congratulations and thank you to all the string soloists who performed in the preliminary round of the Rotary Solo Competition. They were held on January 10th in the MPR and consisted of Orchestra string and Band solo performers.
Additionally, thank you to the excellent adjudicators who are also highly accomplished string educators, Mr. Jim Wang from the Santa Monica-Malibu USD, and Ms. Katie Cavallaro from the Manhattan Beach USD.

There will be two winners in the 9/10th grade division, one from strings and one from percussionists/winds. Similarly, there will be two winners in the 11/12th grade division, one from strings and one from percussionists/winds. The winners will receive a cash award from the Manhattan Beach Rotary Club. They will be honored at a luncheon in February. Let's support our young talented musicians and cheer them on!
ALL DISTRICT ORCHESTRA FESTIVAL
We are looking forward to seeing everyone at the All-District Orchestra Festival next Thursday, February 6th at 6:30 pm in the MCHS Auditorium. This is a free concert featuring superlative performances from not only Costa's Orchestra, but also MBMS and Elementary Strings.
